Ryo Seisui
Calligrapher
I was born and raised in Japan, in a place rich in nature. I have been doing calligraphy since I was a child, and I still continue to do so. I’m studying not only Japanese calligraphy but also Western calligraphy.
The characters I often write in Japanese calligraphy are called “kana,” an ancient script that has been used in Japan for over 1,000 years. This character was created in Japan based on Chinese characters.
When I write Western calligraphy, I often use a brush. This is because I believe the brush can connect with my calligraphy experience. I would like to pursue the kind of expression that is possible because I have experienced both Eastern and Western calligraphy.
I would like to create works of art with a free and artistic sensibility. I believe that there are many different ways of thinking in the world. Each person has their own original feelings and thoughts. I am one of them. I would like to express what I feel through my works.
